The CheMatSustain project, which held its kick-off meeting at the end of January at HAW Hamburg, focuses on Implementing innovative methods for safety and sustainability assessments of chemicals and materials particularly at nano level in the European Union

The Department of Biophysics at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, as a leader of one of the research tasks, actively participates in the project, and together with 10 other partners from across Europe, will tackle the challenge of identifying interactions between various groups of nanomaterials and living cells.

The ambitious goal is to create a publicly accessible database enabling the determination of the effects of nanomaterial interactions on cells, and in a broader context, on living organisms. Simultaneously, the scope of research, which includes a detailed physicochemical characterization of individual nanomaterials, aims to predict potential interactions of cells exposed to environmental contact with nanomaterials.

This exceptional undertaking not only enhances our knowledge of nanomaterials but also has the potential to influence the development of safe and sustainable technologies. Congratulations on the commitment, and we wish you fruitful research!
