Research on the mechanisms of surface etching of the titanium alloy Ti6Al7Nb in fluorine-based plasma.

The project entitled "Investigation of surface etching mechanisms of Ti6Al7Nb titanium alloy in fluorine-based plasma" (2018/31/D/ST5/03581) concerns the modification of the surface of Ti6Al7Nb titanium alloy using the dry etching technique, by shaping its topography according to the geometry applied in the mask process.

The aim of the project is to examine the influence of etching parameters in fluorine-based plasma (such as self-bias voltage, pressure, substrate temperature) on the obtained etching profiles and the resulting selected physicochemical, mechanical, and biological properties. Achieving a structured surface will enable the application in the modification process of masks made from materials with high resistance to fluorine-based plasma, characterized by different apertures.

The modified substrates will undergo investigations of basic physicochemical properties (wettability and surface free energy), mechanical properties (hardness, stress level), tribological properties (friction coefficient and wear resistance), and biological properties (cytotoxicity studies, investigation of the influence of surface geometric structure on cell growth).

The total cost of the project implementation is: 791,800.00 PLN.
